Mark Winterbottom’s lean 2017 has the former series champion determined to return atop the podium in his 15th Supercars season.
Winterbottom, who is joined by race engineer Brendan Hogan, notched a trio of podiums in 2017, and despite going without a win for the first time since 2005, finished sixth in the championship in a season plagued by several issues out of the team’s control. “Frosty” has finished in the top six in the championship every year since joining Tickford Racing in 2006.
Winterbottom’s first win in The Bottle-O colours came at Perth in 2016 following a consistent start to the season as defending champion. A second win at Pukekohe late in the year capped a year where he finished sixth in the championship,
An end-of-season boost at the Auckland SuperSprint came in the form of a race win, building momentum for the former champion ahead of the 2017 season.
A stellar year in 2015 including a total of nine race wins and three pole positions saw Mark Winterbottom crowned V8 Supercars Champion.
While a clean-sweep at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix kicked off his winning form, a podium at Tasmania before two race wins at Perth, and yet another win at the Winton SuperSprint saw Frosty take the championship lead and hold it for the remainder of the 2015 season.
With a Supercars Championship and a Bathurst 1000 victory under his belt, Frosty is renowned as one of the most consistent drivers in the field, finishing in the top six in the championship every year since joining Prodrive Racing.
Winterbottom first gained Ford support in 2001 when he made the jump from karts to single-seater racing in the Victorian Formula Ford series.
After finishing runner-up in the national series two years later he made the move to V8 Supercars where in a Falcon he claimed the Development Series title at his first attempt.
A move to the main game the following year saw him impress and despite being in modest surroundings he did enough to attract the attention of Ford’s factory team.
He switched to Tickford Racing for 2006 where he stunned on debut to finish third overall against very experienced opposition and has been a frontrunner ever since.
