TICKFORD RACING – SUPERCHEAP AUTO RETRO LIVERY REVEAL

11 September, 2018
Chaz Mostert and James Moffat will kick off their co-driving partnership in style with Supercheap Auto’s newest addition to the retro round line up for the RABBLE.club Sandown 500. Emulating the livery run by Steven Ellery and Luke Youlden’s Supercheap Auto Ford BA Falcon across the 2004 season, Mostert and Moffat aim to replicate what the Supercheap Auto Racing Team accomplished just 11 months ago in the Enduro Cup.

Mostert and Steve Owen started their Enduro campaign last year with a third place finish at the Sandown 500. Following that up with a win from pole in the wet on Saturday at Gold Coast, along with top tens at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 and the Sunday race on the Gold Coast, the duo clinched Tickford Racing’s first Enduro Cup title, during a stretch that saw Mostert leap into the championship picture. The 26-year old finished the 2017 season a career-best fifth in the championship.

Sitting eighth at this stage in the 2018 standings, Mostert is looking forward to running the new look this weekend on his No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Falcon FG X, an eye-catching livery which is of personal importance to the 26-year old.

“Obviously it’s retro round so we’ve thrown it back to the past,” said Mostert. “We dug deep into the Supercheap Auto raw history and we picked out an absolute winner for this weekend’s Sandown 500. I’m pretty excited, I’m pretty close friends with the Ellery family so to go back to his ’04 retro livery looks pretty cool. I’m actually pretty jealous of the lines this car carries. I wish we could carry it for the rest of the year, but we’ll see if we can convince the team after the weekend.”

While Owen has moved to pair with stable mate Richie Stanaway’s entry for this year’s Enduro Cup, veteran racer Moffat joins the team after seven years racing full-time in Supercars. Making his 102nd Supercars round start this weekend, Moffat returns to where his Supercars career began, with Tickford Racing as a co-driver in 2010.

“I’m very excited to be teaming up with Chaz,” said Melbourne-based Moffat. “Obviously he’s the reigning Enduro Cup champion, so we’ll be looking forward and hoping to achieve something similar. Sandown, it’s always the traditional lead-up race to Bathurst, so what’s not to be excited about? I’m keen to get back in the car and have a crack.”

David Bauer, General Manager of Customer Communication and Engagement of Supercheap Auto, echoed the pair’s enthusiasm as they look to string together strong results across the biggest races of 2018.

“Supercheap Auto has a longstanding history in Australian motorsport, and every year we look forward to retro round where we can connect with our fans in bringing back a beloved livery from years gone by. This year is no different, and the 2004 looks great on Chaz and James’ car. We can’t wait to see it on track,” said Bauer.

Mostert and Moffat first take to Sandown Raceway Friday, September 14, with the RABBLE.club Sandown 500 on Sunday, September 16. The opening round of the annual Enduro Cup leads into Australia’s biggest race, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, taking place Sunday, October 7.
