Tickford Racing completed its first on-track day of 2018 on Friday with the annual SuperTest at Sydney Motorsport Park. It was the first time in 2018 in which all four Tickford Racing Falcons took to the track, which precedes the season-opening Adelaide 500 March 1-4.
The teams worked through a full day of testing and developing car setups in preparation for the 16-event season, and completed nearly eight hours of testing with zero on-track issues. The series-wide test also provided an opportunity for all four of the team’s co-drivers to turn laps around the 3.91 kilometre permanent road course as the team evaluates pairings for the upcoming Enduro Cup beginning in September.

“We went all right. We got through our program, which was good. We got the car close to where I think it needed to be, but we need a bit more. Unfortunately the red flag came out just before I did a run on the 2018 tyre that would have felt pretty good, so that was disappointing. I thought the things I needed from the car, that tyre were giving me the feel that I needed, I just didn’t get the run. Good day, the hard tyre run was reasonable earlier in the day as well, so we’ll come away happy. We had a few gremlins at the start of the day which, thankfully, we got on top of. We gave Dean some good tyres for a good run as well, so not a bad day, but I think we’re up around the P2 mark if I get that run in, so not a bad day.”

“It was a pretty solid day of testing. It’s hard to test around here because the tyre degradation is so bad, but we tried everything we wanted to try and ran both compounds. All in all we’re pretty happy. I don’t think anyone’s really put their best foot forward yet, so onto Adelaide and we’ll see what happens.”

“We stuck to our plan today, we were actually ahead of our plan at midday which was great. I think there’s some stuff we can take out of today and have a look at when we’re back in the workshop and work out if we got any gains. Uneventful day for us, car still feels like a Supercar, so we’ll get to Adelaide and see how we go.”

“It wasn’t the best day for us. We were trying a few things with the car but we struggled a bit with the changing compounds, so we still have a bit of work to do. We struggled more than we thought on the hard tyre, just with the balance and stuff. But we’ll look into that and see where we can improve for Adelaide.”

“First and foremost we logged plenty of laps and came back with all four cars in one piece. Any test day you do that is a good test day. The boys ran through their programs and made good progress, which will help us figure out what we need to do moving forward. We were also able to get our co-drivers some seat time, which helps them acclimate with the car and us an opportunity to see how they fit within the team. We’ve still got a bit of work to do but we’ll put our heads together back at the shop and come out swinging in Adelaide.”
