On and off the track, Supercars is all about the numbers and today was a testament to that with everything going on.

‍

Whilst on track, the chat is focused on tyre bundles, and all other conversations were locked on understanding the weather forecast.

‍

The crew got caught out early as they attempted to run their morning pit stop practice and the heavens opened, dumping and almighty hit of rain across the Gold Coast covering the crew from head to toe.

‍

As the morning progressed, small dumps of rain plagued the precinct before we rolled out to a wet track for Practice one.

‍

The practice sessions were incredibly short, which meant any set up changes needed to be swift and on point each time. The team delivered every time as the engineers aimed to achieve everything, they wanted to in the run plans before qualifying.

‍

PRACTICE ONE

#6 Cam Waters: 8th

#55 Thomas Randle: 18th

‍

The only mark out of practice one was Waters coming together with the fence in the last corner. When he returned to the lane, there was a slightly sorry sight as the front bar was cracked on the underside.

A quick replacement of the spare was made whilst the team jumped into action fixing the one that had just come off.

‍

PRACTICE TWO

#6 Cam Waters: 2nd

#55 Thomas Randle: 20th

‍

Across the day, there was a focus on the drivers finding the limit of the kerb sensors. We saw plenty of strikes during the first practice sessions, along with those who gambled too heavy and had to short cut to save the car colliding with the wall.

‍

As the support categories failed to run clean sessions, there were many questions of whether the Supercars would run on dry or wet tyres.

‍

Thankfully, the weather stayed off just enough and the rising humidity seemed to pull moisture out of the track for the slick tyres to go on.

‍

Across qualifying, the boys were right on the mark being in the ten for most of the session and Waters getting early benchmark sitting second and not going for the middle of the session run with the field.

‍

As we neared the final run, the boys hit their marks although there was not much pace gain and they both snuck in the top 10 to kick the opening of GC off strong.

‍

QUALIFYING

#6 Cam Waters: 2nd

#55 Thomas Randle: 20th

‍

We return to the track for the top 10 shootout tomorrow at 13:45.
