Round Four, Perth - Prebrief

Introduction:

After the disappointment of Taupo, the team have crossed the Nullarbor for this weekend’s Round 4 of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship.

The Perth event also includes the next phase of the Dunlop Super 2 Series, which has meant that the workshop has been pumping over the last few weeks to get 5 cars on the trucks and safely to Barbagallo. This is no mean feat and our whole team should be lauded for their efforts.

The weekend is sure to provide great racing and a fantastic spectacle for all the fans. The sun will be shining all weekend which will add to the excitement of the racing. Those teams that manage their tyres and their car set-up for this tight and tricky course will be best placed to fill the podium spots.

Over the course of the weekend, you can watch all the racing live on Foxtel on Kayo.

What to expect from Barbagallo

CARCO.com.au and previously known as Barbagallo Raceway has a significant history and presence in the world of motorsports. Originally known as the Wanneroo Park, it has been a popular racing circuit since its establishment in 1969. The track offers a thrilling mix of fast straights, challenging corners, and sweeping elevation changes, providing an exciting experience for both drivers and spectators.

The history of CARCO.com.au Raceway is closely tied to the growth of motorsports in Australia. Over the years, it has hosted various national and international racing events, including the V8 Supercars Championship. The circuit has witnessed thrilling battles and memorable moments, becoming a favourite among racing enthusiasts.

In recent years, the raceway has undergone significant upgrades to meet modern safety standards and enhance the overall racing experience. The facility features a modern pit complex, spectator viewing areas, and improved infrastructure to accommodate a wide range of motorsport events.

Matty Roberts Team manager stated, “Looking to rebound from a tough NZ event, where we were well positioned, but couldn’t capitalise.

The team’s put a big emphasis on building from our qualifying speed and converting to race pace. It’s been a huge undertaking since we’ve come back from Taupo and had eyes s forward; we can’t wait to roll out for P1.

We’ve traditionally been pretty good in Perth, so looking to hopefully build on that”.

What do our drivers think:

Following the great announcement that Cam will be driving for RFK Racing in the upcoming Nascar Cup Series event in Sonoma he provided the following thoughts on this weekend’s action:

“The start of the year hasn’t been what I’d forecast. There’s been the mechanical failure and the numbers of crashes that I’ve been caught up in, but I’m not dwelling on any of that.

The team’s working really hard to deliver a pacy car and I’m itching to get out there and perform.

Perth has been a place where we’ve had speed in the past and I’m focused on starting strong and building from P1.

The forecast is for weather I thrive in and looking forward to getting after it, after all the hard work the team has been putting in and well as my efforts of the track and in the sim”.

His partner in crime, Thomas Randle, had the following to say about the weekend “Really looking forward to bouncing back after a tough event at Taupo, where the team can look to maximise our strengths but equally focus on our current weaknesses.

I don’t believe the results on paper are a true indication of where we were at as a team. Fingers crossed Cam and I can both race strongly and look to achieve a few podiums and wins.

We’ve been hitting the sim and training hard so looking forward to giving it a red hot go and see where we end up”.

DS2

Following on from a successful first weekend at Bathurst our DS2 team of Lochie Dalton, Brad Vaughan and Rylan Gray will all be in action again. Whilst it seems like an age since they last raced, rest assured the guys have not been away from racetracks for very long. Each of the guys have been competing in various other forms of racing to keep themselves tuned up for this great event.

Here are DS2 Team Manager, Simon Robinson’s thoughts on how the team will go this weekend, "We have come here to Perth with confidence after a successful test day earlier this month.

It was great to have the cars out after such a long time sitting on the sidelines between Bathurst and the test day. The drivers hit their strides quickly and got to tuning the cars and building on their strengths. It was a solid day and I'm impressed with the way the Lochie and Rylan have melded into their new Tickford Autosport Mustangs and Brad gaining more experience with the team.

We look forward to building on our strong showing at Bathurst. Sitting 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Championship we are happy with the performance of the team as a whole and are focused on this form continuing".
