The sun was shining on Eastern Creek as drivers, teams and fans rolled into Sydney Motorsport Park to kick of the 2026 Season.
It was a later start than usual as will be most the weekend with the night and afternoon races ahead. The Autosport team rolled out first with their first of 2 practice sessions for the day, an exciting moment for the whole team especially Gomersall and Logan making their debut for the team.
It was clear running all the way through the session with the drivers being around the mark for all of the 50 minute session.
PRACTICE 1 DUNLOP SERIES
#5 Reuben Goodall: 3rd
#6 Ben Gomersall: 1st
#55 Nash Morris: 6th
#56 Campbell Logan: 7th
It was then time for the first Supercars session of the day with Practice 1 in a 45 minute hit out around the 3.91km circuit.
The boys both opted for race runs, running 15+ straight laps in order to get some valuable running data for the night race.
PRACTICE 1 SUPERCARS
#6 Cam Waters: 20th
#55 Thomas Randle: 19th
There was a bit of waiting around for both categories today as they got the final cobwebs off themselves and the car heading into a big weekend.
As time rolled around for Qualifying, it was all eyes on the main game cars rolling out for the first proper session of the season.
Both Waters and Randle set blistering first stint laps that landed them well within the top 10 of the field.
Opting for a pit stop and wait, the drivers fell into rotation with the rest of the field. Being pushed back with all other cars to start their final run of Part 1 Qualifying.
A moment where everyone collectively held their breath as Thomas just snuck through in 10th to continue into part 2 of qualifying with Cameron.
Both cars again followed a similar strategy with the 2 team cars rolling out with only 2 other cars in the field.
With times set, they track was developing in the evening sun and the pitted to form back up with the frest of the field runnings.
It was a valiant effort by both #6 and #55 in what was a record breaking qualifying session for lap times. Both cars struggled with a little bit of balance throughout the circuit and after talking with broadcast reflected on how tight the competiton is out there.
QUALIFYING RACE 1 SUPERCARS
#6 Cam Waters: 7th
#55 Thomas Randle: 9th
With a short intermission it was the final runs of the day for the Autosport team.
Mixed strategies and tyre set ups throughout the long session meant for times jumping all over the leader board.
Gomersall and Goodall were once again around the top of the charts for most of the session, with Logan and Morris much closer in the second part of the day.
The team have put together a great first day bringing the exact pace and focus toward defending the championship in 2026.

#55 Nash Morris: 7th
#56 Campbell Logan: 11th
As it came race time, the fans were jammed pack in the grandstand, on pit straight and on the pit building ready to kick off 2026.
The boys were ready to go in what was set to be a hot start as the cars flew down to the fast turning corner at the bottom of the straight.
With all clean getaways, Waters and Randle slipped into a perfect lap after lap motion, taking the opportunities to take small gaps out of the car in front every so slightly.
Randle was caught in a couple of early battles with the likes of Kostecki but managed some clean racing to remain with eyes forward.
With pit stops completed about midway through the race, the team performed to perfection, opting to take 4 tyres on both cars in a hot pit stop.
The team executed the stops without fault to firmly set the benchmark for the season.
With the stops, both cars jumped spots out of the lane that meant Waters came out effective 3rd and Thomas not too far behind in 7th.
Unfortunately the tyres just did not get in the window that the team were after. After other cars re-entered the field they managed to catch the Tickford team and both cars dropped back a couple of spots to complete the race.
Overall it is a clean and strong start to the 2026 season, we have 2 more chances to get back on the podium this weekend.
