Well it’s safe to say we well and truly felt the wrath of The Mountain today.
As we hit the halfway point of our event, it’s safe to say there is still plenty to play out for our Bathurst 1000.
Qualifying for DS2 kicked off the day with the session bringing highlights to start off as the guys were quick across the top of The Mountain.
We progressed to the Top 5 shootout with two cars and two not far behind.
DUNLOP SUPER 2 QUALIFYING
#5 Reuben Goodall: 6th
#6 Ben Gomersall: 2nd
#55 Campbell Logan: 7th
#56 Nash Morris: 5th
There was a small breather before we went into the Top 5 shootout, and safe to say there was no holding back Morris across the 6.2km as he put down a mega lap to open preceding’s.
Gomersall did the same not long after, setting a purple final sector whilst running wide on the dirt before crossing the line.
DUNLOP SUPER 2 TOP 5 SHOOTOUT
#6 Ben Gomersall: 4th
#56 Nash Morris: 2nd
DUNLOP SUPER 2 RACE ONE
#5 Reuben Goodall: DNF
#6 Ben Gomersall: DNF
#55 Campbell Logan: 5th
#56 Nash Morris: 4th
As we rolled into the first practice of the day for the VCS team, we saw the first green tyre run with low fuel and the boys topped the leaderboard for a short time.
The rest of the session was tweaking setups and seeing how the team could find more grip.
SUPERCARS PRACTICE THREE
#6 Waters/Winterbottom: 6th
#55 Randle/Goodall: 8th
For the next practice and qualifying it was just an unfortunate mix of just not feeling the car was confident in its grip, especially across the top of the mountain.
Whilst the team did a mega job to get everything they could to change set ups, we just were not where we wanted to be.
A big debrief for both DS2 and VCS tonight, but its done as a team and we look to move on and learn more into tomorrow.
