There was a clear sign of pace and grip that the team aimed to find overnight as we set up the run plan for the final day of the Gold Coast 500.
Predicting rain, different tyres and everything in between has kept everyone at their limits as the weather and struggles we have had continue to prove challenging for the team.
As we rolled out for qualifying, there was optimism that there was a change in the cars that would prove favourable for the team.
Early stages the cars looked good, but as the second runs were made there was a clear read that Randles car was once again not in the window to put a strong lap together.
Waters settled his spot well above the cut off line and progressed whilst Randle’s potion was set for the final race of the weekend.
During the second part of qualifying, Waters was on the bubble most of the time, finding it hard to deliver three green sector times across his laps.
He just squeezed in as the chequered flag waived to end the session, rolling out second for the Top Ten Shootout.
QUALIFYING
#6 Cam Waters: 9th
#55 Thomas Randle: 19th
Cam’s lap in the shootout was fantastic again as he battled full grip levels. Unfortunately, he was handed a two-place grid penalty due to low tyre pressure during his shootout lap.
TOP TEN SHOOTOUT
#6 Cam Waters: 10th
The dry race start was nice to see as we hit Sunday afternoon, both boys leapt well and juggled their way into the first turn.
Waters was battling Murray and a couple of taps on each car got sorted out as Waters jumped the first corner to avoid a collision.
Randle had a brilliant first stint, jumping a couple of positions early and by the time the first pit stops rolled around, was up five positions from where he started.
During the middle stints, the guys were battling and finding pace where they could. There was a change in the air as the skies got slightly darker of which our cars just didn’t click with the change and the drivers were doing everything they could to extract pace from them.
At the end of the race, Waters was battling heavily with Golding but managed to hold him off over the last ten races to keep his 6th place in the championship standings.
Randle was holding his own too, jumping nine spots over the race to come home in the top 10 and stand as the driver with the most positions made over the day, an incredible bounce back effort after a tough weekend.
RACE 32
#6 Cam Waters: 7th
#55 Thomas Randle: 10th
As the weekend concludes, we take away the positive of Waters progressing to the next stage of The Finals, sitting 7th in the championship and plenty to do come the next race.
We thank all our fans and members who came out to show support during the wet three days.
The team will take the time to heavily review the round and understand where the grip issues came from.
We are into another short turnaround with Sandown only a couple more weeks away.
