The ominous grey clouds shadowed Queensland Raceway as the team arrived at track for a super Saturday full of track action.

All three boys kicked off with a signing session in Merch Alley, a great chance for the wonderful Queensland fans to catch up with Waters, Randle and Gomersall.

Not too long after, the crew were ready to roll into the important qualifying sessions that would set the grid for the two Saturday races.

As the lights in pit lane turned green and the session commenced, we rolled out with the field ready to throw down some laps.

With the team not able to make any changes between qualifying and Race 26, the car set up was balanced to handle both one lap pace and race pace stints.

Straight off the bat, the boys delivered strong times that saw Waters and Randle sitting inside the top ten, Gomersall was not too far behind in about 19th.

As the first part of qualifying came to a close, both Waters and Randle sat within the cut off line. Gomersall punched a respectable time that locked his place in for the first race.

Part two of qualifying was a bit tricker for the guys, the pace just ultimately wasn’t there in the car, they delivered strong laps, but it was all that could be done as the chequered flag fell.

RACE 26 QUALIFYING:

#6 Cam Waters: 9th

#55 Thomas Randle: 7th

#5 Ben Gomersall: 22nd

There was similar news to report in qualifying for the second race of the day.

Randle was reporting vibration in the car, which was unfortunately hurting overall speed of the car, but he did an incredible job to punch a time that had him just miss the cut off.

Gomersall continued to improve on the weekend, jumping a position from the previous session and learning lap after lap.

RACE 27 QUALIFYING:

#6 Cam Waters: 9th

#55 Thomas Randle: 12th

#5 Ben Gomersall: 21st

As there was no changes between qualifying and the race, the cars sat idle in the garage, got a freshen up before heading out to the grid for Race 26.

As the lights went out, the boys had a solid jump with Waters and Randle holding position into turn one.

Gomersall jumped well also, gaining a good bit of speed down the long pit straight, and keeping a clean car around the first few corners.

From there, it was little to report from a race perspective overall. The boys were doing what they could to extract any pace from the car.

Gomersall was battling some solid drivers in his portion of the field, with some highlight reel moments for the young driver as he put his skills on display.

The pit stops in the main game garage were extremely quick, sitting fastest and second fastest for the field in the race. A credit to the team who are continuing to master the pit stop craft and agility with changes in race strategy.

All three cars fell into a bit of a follow the leader race after that, holding positions and keeping the car staright being the main objective.

RACE 26:

#6 Cam Waters: 8th

#55 Thomas Randle: 10th

#5 Ben Gomersall: 25th

With the first race in the books, the team had the chance to utilise the two hour window to get changes done to the car.

For #55, there were major changes and replacement of a few parts to try and identify the vibration issue, as it seemed to not be as easily found initially.

For Gomersall and Waters, main changes were done based on debrief and how they wanted to attack the Super Soft tyre race late in the afternoon.

The cars roared to life under the Queensland afternoon sun, kicking off the final race of the day for Supercars.

Off the line, Gomersall had a mega start, jumping a position and holding his line really well through the first couple of corners.

Waters had a slightly slow start and dropped one spot initially, whilst Thomas started well and fell in behind Waters as the first few laps went underway.

Whilst it didn’t show a lot on TV, Gomersall was showing off his race craft in the back end of the field, battling with the main game drivers and throwing some fantastic overtakes which had his engineer very happy over the radio.

For Waters and Randle, pace was good in parts and not so much in others. Randle still suffering from the vibrations reported in the previous race of which he had to battle for the whole second race as well.

Through the middle part of the race, Gomersall was moving up a few spots and then unfortunately fell unlucky to either being taken out, or moved off his line and shuffling back a few positions.

A late safety car saw Waters pit at the perfect time, although the pay off was not too beneficial as the clean up took a lot longer than expected and the four tyre change was hindered slightly.

The top 6 cars were battling hard which allowed Randle and Waters to stay in contention of maybe getting a podium if things were to go sour up the front. Although it never seemed to come as one late safety car for Gomersall saw the field bunch back up again and it stayed as is for the remainder of the race.

RACE 26:

#6 Cam Waters: 7th

#55 Thomas Randle: 9th

#5 Ben Gomersall: 22nd

Whilst we close Saturday with no wins or podiums, there is plenty to take away from todays action.

Waters tentatively secures his place in The Finals as he is over 600 points ahead of 10th, Randle continues to cut into the lead to the Top 10 and now sits just 90 odd points away with plenty of more opportunities to come.

For Gomersall, there is plenty to be happy with regardless of finishing position, has showing his family, supporters and the category some great race craft and he gets one more chance to show it off again tomorrow.

Sunday at QR sees the day kick off with qualifying in the morning, before the all important top ten shootout and race to close out the day.
