Thomas Randle’s Ford Mustang will carry the look of a classic Ford Supercar at the penultimate round of the 2026 Supercars Championship at Sandown in November.

‍

On the eve of Australia’s Great Race – the Repco Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama – a unique online vote saw Supercars fans vote for the livery that Randle’s Tickford Racing Mustang will carry at Sandown. The winner? The 2007 Ford Performance Racing Castrol Ford Falcon BF.

‍

The voting took place on the V8 Sleuth website, allowing fans to choose from seven retro Castrol liveries raced by legends like Larry Perkins, Russell Ingall, Greg Murphy and Tony Longhurst.

‍

This marks the third consecutive year that Castrol, Tickford and Randle have brought a retro theme to the Sandown Supercars event.

‍

In 2024, Randle carried the famous Castrol colours of the TOM's Supra, which raced in Japan's SuperGT Series.

‍

Last year, a legendary local scheme was reborn, with Randle’s Mustang honouring the saw-tooth Castrol scheme of Larry Perkins’ cars from the 1990s.

‍

The green and red Falcon that was voted the most popular raced in the hands of five-time Bathurst 1000 winner Steven Richards in 2007, claiming a race win at Surfers Paradise and a podium result at Symmons Plains that year.

‍

Fans, though, remember this livery from its spectacular demise in the 2007 Bathurst 1000 – a race that Richards and his co-driver Mark Winterbottom seemed destined to win.

‍

With 14 laps to go in the 2007 Great Race, Winterbottom was caught out by slippery conditions at The Chase, surfing through the sand and dipping out of the hunt for what would have been Winterbottom’s first win.

‍

It took Winterbottom and Tickford six more years – at the 2013 Bathurst 1000 – to finally win The Great Race.

‍

In 2026, the look of Randle’s Castrol Mustang will change for Sandown, but his focus remains on the major prize – a berth in the Supercars finals.

‍

The 30-year-old sits 12th in the standings, just 63 points off 10th place with only one race of the regular season remaining at Bathurst.

‍

If Randle makes it to the finals (as he did last year), he will wait just two weeks for the first elimination event at the Gold Coast 500.

‍

The Supercars season concludes with the Sandown 500 (November 6-8) and the bp Adelaide Grand Final (November 29-29).

‍

Thomas Randle, Driver, #55 Castrol Ford Mustang said

‍

Firstly, I just want to say a huge thank you to Tickford, Castrol and V8 Sleuth for running this competition, and a big thank you to everyone who voted for their favourite livery for me to represent at the Sandown 500 this year.

‍

I’m pretty stoked that the winning livery is the '07 BF Falcon FPR livery, that was the one I was gunning for, and I swear it’s not rigged!

‍

Mark Winterbottom, Former team Bathurst 1000 and Supercars champion said

‍

Seeing one of Richo's cars from that '07 era back on track will be a really cool moment.

‍

It's got good and bad history for me. At Bathurst in 2007, Saturday was pole position, one of the best days of my life, and Sunday was almost one of the worst.

‍

We led 74 laps, but had nothing to show for it. It has a lot of meaning either way.

‍

That livery was one of my favourites, and that's what I voted for.

‍

We didn't win the race at Bathurst, but it was almost the most dominant weekend we've ever had. The best thing about retro liveries is the story behind them, and 99 percent of that car were great memories.

‍

Jan Willink, Brand & Product Manager - Castrol ANZ said

‍

It’s been exciting to see the fan response to some of the iconic Castrol Supercar liveries.

‍

And the voice of Castrol Racing fans has been heard loud and clear with the voting.

‍

The ’07 BF Falcon Castrol EDGE livery is one that holds a special place in the hearts of Ford fans. This iconic livery represented on the Gen3 Castrol Racing Mustang will look amazing on track.

‍

We hope fans are pleased with the end result.
