The team arrived to a brisk Wanneroo Raceway on Saturday to kick of the weekend action across Main Game and the Dunlop Series.
‍

With practice in the books from Friday, there was not much to report as the team tested a lot of different set ups to run over the weekend.

‍

As qualifying rolled around, the boys set very quick banker laps that saw them sitting at P1 and P2 on the timings before the session was red flagged due to a beached car. As the session restarted, the boys fell back into rhythm once again, not dropping outside the top five through the 12 minute part one qualifying.

‍

Both Waters and Randle kept the momentum going in the second phase, ringing every tenth out of the car that they could avoiding any major issues on track. As the chequered flag fell, it set a great benchmark for the day.

QUALIFYING RACE TWENTY THREE

#6 Cam Waters: 2nd

#55 Thomas Randle: 3rd

‍

As we switched tyre compound to the Super Soft, we rolled out once again into race 24 qualifying in Perth.

‍

There were initial signs that the cars were not quite in the window, and with no changes able to be made during the qualifying breaks, it was a matter for the drivers to understand how they can make it work.

‍

The first phase of qualifying was tight, with both boys just delivering the laps late to progress to the next session. For Randle, it was a mega lap that saw him go P1 on the timing charts and he had a big smile on him in the garage.

‍

The second part of race 24 qualifying was a little tougher for both cars, struggling to find the confidence that they had previously although still doing incredibly well on the track.

‍

As the session finished, it was Randle once again who punched a fantastic lap to sit just off the first row and Waters was close behind although just missed a few tenths to be higher.

‍

QUALIFYING RACE TWENTY FOUR

#6 Cam Waters: 8th

#55 Thomas Randle: 4th

‍

With the finishing of main game qualifying, it was time to welcome the Autosport team into the garage with their qualifying session starting soon after.

‍

The short session was a chance for the boys to put their practice into motion as they rolled out on the Wanneroo circuit on Saturday.

‍

All four boys held great positions early, within the top ten and with a chance to improve on their times. Through the session, there were moments for all the boys who were trying to get everything out of their respective Ford Mustangs.

‍

Toward the end, Logan ran wide and brought home with him a chunk of dirt from the runoff that saw him just miss out on a shot in the Top five shootout.

QUALIFYING RACE 1 DUNLOP SERIES

#5 Reuben Goodall: 4th

#6 Ben Gomersall: 5th

#55 Nash Morris: 8th  

#56 Campbell Logan: 6th

The re-introduction of the Top Five Shootout was eagerly expected by this team for the weekend, but speaking to the boys after, it was heart pumping stuff having the track all alone for one mega lap.

‍

Both Gomersall and Goodall punched strong laps straight off the back, and without the track development we saw later, deserves a big round of applause to do the times that they did.

‍

TOP FIVE SHOOTOUT RACE 1 DUNLOP SERIES

#5 Reuben Goodall: 5th

#6 Ben Gomersall: 4th

Then rolled around the first race of the Supercars Championship in Perth, with a chance to keep the strong team form going, the team were locked in and ready to go.

‍

Off the line, Waters jumped perfectly and leapt into the lead as the pack got to turn one. Randle also jumped well, although the impending turn one righthander meant that he had to drop back and slot in behind Wood as they started the race.

‍

As the race developed, the boys lost some overall pace in both cars meaning that they were unable to make too many gains to the cars in front and those behind were catching.

‍

A slow stop for Car 6 didn’t help, with a threaded wheel nut meaning it was a three tyre stop for Waters rather than a four.

‍

As the chequered flag came and went, it was a very respectable effort by the boys, but they and the team knew they wanted more out of that first race. But it was a chance to hit reset and focus on the afternoons race.

‍

RACE TWENTY THREE

#6 Cam Waters: 4th

#55 Thomas Randle: 9th

‍

The Autostport team then returned for their first of two races this weekend in Perth, with four strong cars lined up ready to race.

‍

Off the line, it was a bit of a mixed bag with Logan getting the best jump of all when the lights went out. For Goodall there was a slight wobble that made him vulnerable, and Nash and Gomersall had respectable starts.

‍

Throughout the race, the boys held good pace but there was not much opportunity for overtaking on the tyres that they had. An early safety car meant a heated restart, but the boys held their nerve heading into turn one with little body work damage to the cars.

‍

It was a great return to the Podium for Gomersall, who had a couple of teammates hot in tow at the end of the session, whilst Nash will look to bounce back again tomorrow.

As attention turned to the final race of the day, the main game crew was suited and booted ready to put their best foot forward.

‍

Off the line, Randle jumped incredibly well and if it wasn’t for a wobbling Feeney, he would have jumped a position heading into one. Unfortunately he was impeded slightly which meant he had to get off the throttle to avoid a collision.

‍

Waters jumped well from a little further back, although slotted in behind the chain to get his momentum back heading into lap one.

‍

Throughout the race, it was slightly the same as the previous, with both cars struggling to get the Super Soft tyre in the window. Changing strategies and a incident free race meant that the team looked to optimise all they could over the 50 laps.

‍

Whilst disappointment, there are positives the team had made in their understanding of the tyre compound that has caused some headaches so far in 2026.

‍

Individual races for both Main Game and Dunlop Series tomorrow will close out our weekend, with the track action kicking off at 09:45am with Dunlop Qualifying.
