As we neared the end of the weekend, it was a very deciding day in our championship hunt as a team.

The storyline’s of Saturday meant there was plenty still to fight for regardless of starting position for the race.

Cars rolled out for qualifying with sights set on improving from yesterday’s positions. It didnt take long before we knew we were on the mark.

First laps recorded in the 1:09’s for lap times which was speedy compared to the previous day. Waters landed in 4th and close behind in 10th was Randle.

As the field pitted for their final runs, the cars rolled out and our drivers went one better. Waters stuck the fastest time of the session whilst Randle wasn’t too far behind in 4th.

Close to the end there was a red flag which means cars rolled out for one last flyer. As the chequered flag was waved, waters went one better again and jumped back to provisional pole with Randle close behind.

QUALIFYING RESULTS

#40 Cam Waters: 1st

#55 Thomas Randle: 5th

Thomas rolled out midway through the top ten shootout. Flew through the lap even with a couple of spots he wasn’t overall happy with.

He held p1 being 4 tenths faster than the field to that point.

Waters had a decent lap, navigating the tough circuit on a knifes edge. Just a snap of the wheel toward the back hurt his lap time as he came through  on the second row.

TOP 10 SHOOTOUT RESULTS

#40 Cam Waters: 4th

#55 Thomas Randle: 2nd

It was a big day for the #55 off the front row with Rod Nash Racing celebrating 800 races.

It marks 28 years of dedication and commitment to Australian Motorsport for RNR, with 800 race starts, 376 race meeting attendances and 31 drivers in the seat of the RNR #55 Car.

Thomas Randle’s #55 Castrol Racing Mustang will run with a RNR decal on the car this Sunday to mark the momentous occasion.

The #55 has been a long-standing entry in the Supercars Championship and steered by a range of high calibre drivers over the years including Rod Nash himself who raced in the RNR car during its introduction.

As race time rolled around, the lights went out and both drivers made incredible jumps off the line. Both Randle wand waters ran 2 wide into turn 1 which unfortunatyly meant they had to yield and slip back into their strarting positions.

The first stint was managed well by both drivers as they tackled pressure from behind. Finding their rhythym and with not much happening on the track, both drivers pitted under green flag conditions.

By mid race Randle was 3rd and Waters was 4th in what continued to be lap by lap management of ensuring they get through to the chequered flag.

Toward the end of the race, Waters passed Randle and took off up the road in hope of securing a podium. Whilst Randle was caught up with a big battle pack causing potential issues to his championship progression.

Randle was well and truly in the fight late, being hit into the last corner, thankfully he was able to re-gather and continue on in 7th.

A late penalty to Anton sealed the Semi-Final position for Randle in what is a huge achievement for the team to proceed with 2 cars still in the fight.

It was a really good day up until probably the last couple of stints.

The shootout was awesome and we qualified on the front row. We had a good start in second there for awhile and I just didn’t seem to have the same pace in the last two days.

That last stint was obviously really challenging and then I got thrown sideways at the last corner. Pretty happy to make it through to the next round of finals and to have both cars through to the semi-finals is fantastic.

Not a bad weekend for us finishing fifth today and we’ve made it through to the Semi-Finals.

Fourth in the championship, I’ve got a little bit of work to do to find some car speed but we’re close and we’re in it so onto the next one.
