After an emotional rollercoaster in Darwin, the team is refocused and ready to head backup north for another crack — this time on the streets of Townsville. A happy hunting ground for Tickford in the past, historically this has been a strong round for the team, and we’re aiming to bounce back and rediscover the form we opened the season with. Where Supercars have brought PBR to excite the fans with bucking bulls, our team has readied our Mustangs to take on the streets of Reid Park.

This event marks the second last round of the Super Sprint format for the year, with racing across all three days before the Championship shifts gears into endurance mode.Ipswich will then host the final sprint round later this month, before the enduro rounds begin. Townsville provides us with the opportunity to solidify our positions in the Top 10 and build towards the finals later this year.

Alongside our main game drivers at the ‘Ville, we have our four Tickford Auto sport drivers set to feature in the Dunlop Super2 series; the first time since Tasmania. They are keen to keep the momentum from the last round, where Tickford swept the podium, the Round win and retaining the lead the Drivers Championship.

See below for what the guys have to say following Darwin and how they are feeling heading into Townsville.

Cam Waters
Driver #6 Monster Energy - Ford Mustang
Excited to get back up toTownsville for some more warm weather. As a team we are always pretty strong here so I’m keen to put Darwin behind us and go get some trophies this weekend.

Thomas Randle
Driver #55 Castrol Racing - Ford Mustang
Pretty excited to get back behind the wheel of the Castrol Mustang this weekend in Townsville. It’s a different format with three races, so it’s going to be pretty exciting to race on Friday.

It was a tough run in Darwin last time out, but the boys found a few things with the car, which is good, and I’m just keen to reset. We had a pretty strong round here last year as a team, so we’re looking to hopefully repeat that, go a few spots better, and get on that podium—hopefully across all three races—and bank some good points heading into our return to Queensland Raceway for the next round.

Townsville will kick off with the team on track in practice 1 Friday morning 8.25am AEST for DS2 and 9.25am for the first of two 30-minute sessions for main game.
