Day two at Townsville started with a relatively cruisy morning as the prepared for the near midday qualifying for Race 21.

The boys enjoyed a signing session in the paddock, getting to meet the many fans who made the early trip out to Reid Park.

With the cars set up and ready to roll, pit lane opened and the boys took off for the part one qualifying session.

Opening on a set of used tyres, all three cars set banker laps early before pitting for new boots and holding in for 2 remaining flying laps.

As the tyres went on and the cars pushed back, it was clear the boys were on with Waters and Randle switching purple sectors across the track.

Easily solidified within the top ten, it was eyes on Goodall in his closing lap of the first part of the session.

The 22-year-old was excoriatingly close to progressing to the second part of qualifying, missing the cut line by 0.03 of a second. All was not negative in the wildcard garage though, with serious pace improvement on display when compared to Friday.

With the short turn around, the guys took the opportunity to jump out of the car and chat with the engineers before it was time to go again.

It was very much business as usual for Waters and Randle with both drivers again having some purple micro sectors along with a pace advantage that kept them in the top five.

With two cars in the Top Ten Shootout, there was a really big sense of proudness once again that both cars had serious pace on Saturday.

Both boys executed really strong shootout laps on the streets of Townsville, with Randle smashing a great middle sector that had him starting on the second row of the grid.

QUALIFYING RACE 21

#5 Reuben Goodall: 19th

#6 Cam Waters: 4th

#55 Thomas Randle: 6th

TOP TEN SHOOTOUT RACE 21

#6 Cam Waters: 5th

#55 Thomas Randle: 3rd

As the race rolled around, the sun was beating down on pit straight when the 25 cars lined up.

Off the line, Randle jumped well and looked like he would take P2 in into turn one but the track didn’t allow for the room and he held P3.

Waters was just behind jumping a couple of spots early and settling in behind Randle, a great job by both nailing starts again.

Goodall once again had a mega start from a little further back, he got caught up almost hitting a turned Feeney and taking a small corner hop to avoid contact. He sat as high as 12th in the early stages, incredible effort from someone who has limited seat time in the Gen3.

As the race developed, the boys up the front held a solid position and then the pit stop juggle began with cars diving early and some holding a longer stint.

As Randle and Waters pitted, the crew worked extremely well under the North Queensland heat to send the boys back out with fresh tyres ready to tackle the leading pack.

For Goodall, the team are continuing to learn in the pit box, and whilst it was a longer stop than anticipated, it was as best as can be expected with the penalty also being served.

Through the latter half of the race, the cars in front had serious pace and tyre advantage but Randle and Waters did well to stay in touch enough to chase a podium.

The tyre life just wasn’t there in the end and the boy were stretching everything out of the Gen3 Ford Mustang to try and get it up a few more spots.

Goodall finished just over a lap behind but once again banked very valuable laps in the lead up to the last race tomorrow.

We have one more chance to tune the car up over night and move toward a stronger finish for all three cars to close out the weekend.

We are on track from 11:25AM with Qualifying for the last race.
