A day of 2 x 30 minute practice sessions for all teams in the lane, a chance to see what additional shifts were required following the short turn around from Bathurst.
The heat was pumping by midday as the team rolled out our Mustangs into pit lane for Practice 1.
There had been some track adjustments and new resurfacing since we were last here 12 months ago, so the early laps were a chance to redial the focus and test the cars across dicey conditions.
A brief red flag was waved in the session after the tyre barrier at turn 1 become a hazzard. After just a few too many hits, the cover was lifted and the tyres within it were sprawled across the track.
With a few miuntes left to go once cars rolled back out, there was not much improvement on times with both Waters and Randle keeping it clean through to the chequered flag.
PRACTICE 1 RESULTS
Car #6 Cam Waters: 10th 1:09.586
Car #55 Thomas Randle: 6th 1:09.940
With Practice 2 falling a little later in the afternoon, it was a similar hit out to the first sessions, although some other drivers within the fiedl caused the first big crashes of the weekend.
Waters and Randle set strong times early before they were back in the lane for some minor tweaks. Meanwhile the red flag was out ofter Fullwood spun after making contact with the wall and requiring a pickup due to the damage caused.
When the drivers returned to the track, there was a mix of times just keeping both drivers from being in the top 3. But they managed to stay off the walls as a hand full of other cars returned to pit lane with damaged mirrors and marked pannelling.
Randle had a couple of interupted flying laps with the red flag and some debris that fell on the circuit, but after his final stop for fresh tyres, delivered a blistering time that saw him only 2 tenths behind the leader.
The leader was our own Waters who closely nudged out the rest of the field to sit P1 at the end of the session.
PRACTICE 2 RESULTS
Car #6 Cam Waters: 1st 1:08.573
Car #55 Thomas Randle: 9th 1:08.816
We head back to the track tomorrow for an all important Saturday with Qualifying kicking off at 11:00am local time.
